i have a need of silence and of stars;
too much is said too loudly; I am dazed
the silken sound of whirled infinity
is lost in voices shoulting to be heard....

this past weekend i got off campus to go to SILVER SPRING, MD!!! yesssss! it was a double-duty trip--to go to PIE DAY at the Lees and see all my favorite people at Church of the Atonement, AND to see Cherith! i am glad i went... it was a little weird going "back"... but it was good in so many ways.

Cherith and i chatted and caught up and made pies and watched a movie and talked, and also got to hang out with the famous Tom, who is hilarious and very chill. and we took jumping pictures (it's our tradition)....

AAAaaah SURPRISE. i am posting again. don't get tooo used to it... but for those i miss who are linked to me mainly by xanga, here you go:

today i skipped all three of my classes and went hiking about an hour away from school. it was glorious. three of us girls did about seven miles... part of it along a beautiful creek, part of it among some rock formations that were fun to climb. the leaves were changing, and it was sunny and quiet (except for birds, leaves crunching, and the creek) and it smelled good. we saw 2 snakes.

i am playing intramural flag football. our team is awesome. we are 5-2 right now, which is fun for me since teams i'm on are usually like 0-7 by now :). i play defense--ripping flags off. somedays i wish it was tackle football. today i slid on my already severely scraped up leg (the turf gives nasty rug burn type things) and it hurt SO badly... i gave a battle cry of pain, anger, and frustration, but i kept playing, and we won in overtime.

senior year is the time to try on all your dreams for size. all those random crazy ideas you had of what you wanted to do when you grew up? now i'm getting to actually think about them and discuss them and play with them.... it's like tasting ice-cream. so far i am thinking of ending up next year in: philadelphia, atlanta, charleston, portsmouth (my home) or peru or india.... doing anything from teaching to nannying to secretary work to inner-city ministry to missions. i'm resting in God to make it clear! He always has and always will. :)

since May I've basically been just using this thing to have access to the xangas of two other specific people... and since they said goodbye (at my suggestion?) I am doing the same. I might still see your comments and check in on your lives everyonceinabluemoon... but there will be no new posts for now.

goodluck and goodnight.

an update was begged for...

but there's nothing to say. my days consist of talking, listening, and thinking... eating and sleeping as well. this past weekend three different religion profs preached outdoor evening sermons for campus--sweet times. i also watched the long version of Pride and Predjudice with 5 frat guys... haha. they are an amazing frat, and they wanted to see it to "better understand the female mind"... i'm not sure it helped them, but they all have crushes on Elizabeth Bennett now, and are generally more cultured. i also split some wood out at the cabin and cleaned out the fireplaces, threw around a frisbee, caught up with one graduated friend and one on campus, saw an amazing movie: All The Kings Men. not for the whole family, but very thought provoking on topics of human nature and our inability to do any good of ourselves, good and evil, redemption, etc. as well as excellent cinematography (in my humble opinion) and beautiful symbolism throughout. Then there was church, a 3.5 hr nap, and College Fellowship. and other things happened too.

my roommate has a spectacular specimen of an African violet, named Nairobi, who is currently sitting quite fruitfully on our bathroom windowsill. i have seen African violets with three or four or five flowers, but Nairobi currently has 12, with 25 more buds waiting to open.

i saw a rainbow last week, after standing in the bitterly cold rain for 2 hrs for my friend's soccer game, which they lost, 2-0.

true story: i was chewing bubble gum and trying to see how big a bubble i could blow on the way to class, when all of a sudden a gust of wind came and caught the bubble and whisked the whole piece of gum right out of my mouth and carried it off, spinning and bouncing (and still a bubble), into a dirt pile. i was quite distressed, but luckily had more gum in my backpack.

the end.
